3 DIY Face Masks for Silky Smooth Skin

Did you know you probably have an entire room filled with natural skincare products? Your kitchen! The benefits of natural ingredients in skincare products cannot be stated enough; they're gentle, hydrating, exfoliating and have a wealth of other benefits for all types of skin - from acne-prone to oily.

If you’re the type that has jars of food gathering dust in the cabinets, you might find that they'd be better served in some of these natural homemade recipes for your skin.

Antioxidant Turmeric Face Mask (10-15 mins)

A classic that you’ve probably seen around, turmeric is a popular choice for homemade skincare products due to its antioxidant properties, as well as lightening skin and eliminating dark spots.

Recipe:
1 tablespoon unsweetened yogurt
1 tablespoon organic raw honey
½ teaspoon organic turmeric powder

Mix all of the ingredients together until they form a paste. Make sure you clean your skin, but keep it damp whilst applying the paste. Leave it on for 10-15 minutes and wash off. Don’t worry if your skin turns yellow! Tumeric can sometimes stain the skin. Make sure you apply some moisturiser to lift the remaining pigment, and hit the hay! You’ll notice glowing skin in no time.

Brown Sugar and Coconut Oil Mask (10 mins)

This might be the ultimate quick fix exfoliating facial mask. The best thing about it, isn’t that you’ve probably got both in the kitchen or that it’s fast to whip up - both ingredients have antibacterial, anti-fungal and antiviral properties. Brown sugar also contains glycolic acid whilst the coconut oil acts as a natural hydrating agent after the sugar does it’s thing.

Recipe:
2 tablespoons of brown sugar
2 tablespoons of coconut oil

Mix together ingredients and apply to clean, dry skin in a circular motion. Leave it on for 10 minutes before rinsing off. Enjoy the lovely smell and how smooth your skin will feel after.

Honey and Lime Facial Scrubbing Mask (25-30 mins)

If you have acne-prone skin, this might be the right recipe for you to try out. The ingredient includes foods with antiseptic properties along with disinfectant and skin-whitening benefits. When used 2-3 times a week, you’ll see the benefits in no time.

Recipe:
2 tablespoons of raw honey
½ teaspoon of raw sugar
½ teaspoon dead sea salt
⅛ teaspoon of lime zest
¼ teaspoon lime juice

Mix together the honey, sugar and sea salt into a clean bowl. Next, grate the skin of the lime and add the lime zest and lime juice to the mixture. Mix with a teaspoon until well combined.

To apply to your face, make sure you do this away from sunlight so you’ll avoid staining your skin. Apply with your fingertips to clean, dry skin (avoiding your eyes), including your neck and be aware the mixture can be quite runny! Massage in a circular motion for 5 minutes and then leave it alone for 15-20 mins. Finally, wet your fingers and massage in a circular motion to remove the mask. Pat your skin dry and enjoy fresh and clean feeling of skin that’s ready to glow!
